helping increase that low cloud deck. it's back to school in beautiful pleasanton. starting off very warm. 60. 75 we will go for a high today. 82 after the morning clouds. santa rosa close at 59. temperatures on the very mild side it will be a little cooler today. kind of muggy. a little bit of moisture and humidity in the air too. temperatures coming down a few degrees from yesterday's highs. low to mid 80s for many. here is sal. steve, good morning. right now we have traffic that is going to be doing pretty well. expect, there is a crash in sonoma county. this crash is on highway 121 which is arnold drive. right in the area. right here at wagner road. which is just south of highway 116. a lot of people do take that road. just give yourself a little extra time. chp is there along with medics and the traffic is doing okay because it's early. if you are driving on 80, there is road work in cordelia that

may be slowing you down. again it's nice and early. let's go to the toll plaza. westbound traffic is moving along nicely. northbound 280 traffic does look good getting up to highway 17. at 5:01 let's go back to the desk. all right 5:01. we have an update of the many fires burning over the state. more than 8300 firefighters are fighting fires that are burning almost 400 square fires. six wild fires were burning over the weekend. at least two have been contained. however the raging rim fire near yosemite national park is the biggest. as of this morning that fire has burned almost 144,000 acres. it's only 7% contained. almost 3500 firefighters are out there on the scene. 23 buildings have already been lost but we don't know how many are homes. over the wicked weekend the rim

fire -- it's owned by the city of berkeley. alex savidge is in berkeley to tell us more about that camp and the evacuations happening near yosemite. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, dave. certainly devastating news for those that spend their summer up by the camp. the u.s. forest service is unsure exactly how many buildings at the camp were lost but a number were burned. as the fire closed in last week, the family camp was evacuated. counselors in training packed up and left hoping firefighters could protect the treasured camp. meantime close to 35 million firefighters. this is new aerial video take on board a california air

national. the fire still threatening thousands of homes and structures but over the weekend some people in groveland were allowed back home. >>ve eerie. the vel of smoke an back in was kind of creepy. >> reporter: while some evacuation orders are being lifted, firefighters are warning people woman breathing problems and heart problems to stay away a little bit longer. there was woman that suffered a heart attack and it's believed it could have been caused by a combination of stress and smoke. now meantime as we come back out here this morning, there is another camp that is also run by the uc berkeley. uc berkeley layer of the bear camp. that is also threatened by the rim fire as well. so far flames are moving in the direction of that camp but so far it is not yet burned. live this morning in berkeley alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. >> you can find more photos of

the fire on our channel 2 website at ktvu.com. just go to it. look for the slide show under the top stories on our home page. in the past 30 minutes, 12th street near east santa clara street in san jose reopened after an early morning police activity. st after midnight, police got a call from a distraught man who said he had a weapon. they fnd him sitting in a car with a knife and they took him into custody. he's not under arrest but will be evaluated. police in san francisco are looking for the suspect in an overnight stabbing that sent one person to the hospital. that happened on mission near ruth street in the mission terrace neighborhood at 1:30 this morning. the victim was taken to the hospital and is in serious condition. right now it's unclear what lead up to that stabbing. time is 5:05. two young girls among four people shot in a daytime shooting in east oakland. it happened yesterday afternoon on 104th avenue.

police say two little girls ages eight and 12 were wounded along with a man and woman. no one was seriously hurt. ktvu talk to one police officer on the scene shortly after that gunfire. >> our main concern is for public safety. to assure if there is any -- >> police are still serging for sus -- searching for suspects. several children have died in the recent gun violence in oakland. august 7th one-year-old drew jackson was killed when someone shot through the walls. last month eight-year-old alicia was killed. three other young children were shot and killed in 2011. we're hearing about a mountain lion sighting in

redwood city. that mountain lion was reported around 8:00 last night. people who live in the area are being warned to avoid jogging or hiking at dawn, dusk, and at night which is when mountain lions are most active. we are in the final few days now in the countdown to the closure of the bay bridge. the bridge will shut down wednesday night in preparation for the opening of the new eastern span. now this is the final monday morning commute for drivers on the old bay bridge. ktvu tara moriarty joins us now with information for commuters. something we need to know leading up to this week's closure. >> reporter: there is a chance the bay bridge could open early but don't count on according to a bay bridge spokes perp. these things rarely go off without any problems. in case you haven't heard the bay bridge will be shut down for about a week while crews realign it with interstate 880. they will be paving, installing

barrier rails, and striping lanes. this after 11 years of construction and $6.4 billion in taxpayer money. one east bay man told us his sister who uses the bay bridge every workday is bracing herself for gridlock. >> she probably catching bart. you have the football games coming up. you got everything coming up. you have things going on in the city too. i think that throws things off too. >> there are a number of big events scheduled over the holiday weekend including a bunch of a's games. the ferries will have extra service. bart will be adding limited overnight service. the new bay bridge is set to open the first day back to work. the chp will begin rolling traffic breaks between 7:00 and 8:00 wednesday night on each side of the bridge. now be aware that 15 interstate 880 off ramps will be shut down as well as in san francisco.

welcome back time is 5:12. a soldier with bay area roots will receive the highest military honor. ty carter will receive the medal of honor at the white house. kyla campbell is joining us live in washington, d.c. where president obama will honor sergeant carter. kyla. >> reporter: dave, carter will become just the fifth living medal of honor recipient. he saved the live of fellow soldiers in 2009. another survivor of that same fight received a medal of honor in february. receiving the medal of honor effectively makes carter undeployable and he wants to continue his service working with wounded warriors and sharing his struggled with ptsd. he spent his childhood years in antioch and was based most recently in washington state. he spoke to reporters after he learned he would receive the medal of honor. i'm working on that story for you for 6:15. live in washington i'm kyla

campbell. the marine corp starting this fall will allow women to take part in basic infantry training. it's only on a trial basis. the marines say that won't happen for at least two more years. opening the infantry training to women follows a defense department position earlier this year to repeal the rules against women serving in combat roles. los angeles clipper star lamar odom is missing this morning. no one has seen him for the past three days. his friends and family are fearing the worse. he is the husband of khloe kardashian. he has been battling a serious problem for the past few years. over the weekend a memorial was held for the australian baseball player who was killed in oklahoma. hundreds of family and friends gathered yesterday in melbourn, australia. that is home of the christopher

lane. lane was shot and killed last week while jogging. three teenagers have been arrested. police say the teens said they were bored and had nothing better to do. the california woman convicted of murdering her exboyfriend in arizona is expected to face a judge this morning. 33-year-old jody arias was convicted of first degree murder in may. when the retrial begins a new jury will decide if arias should get the death penalty or life in prison. autopsy will be performed today on the 23-year-old map who died after a sky diving accident. it happened at 6:00 p.m. saturday after sky dance sky diving school in davis. witnesses say the experience sky diver fell out of his harness. the first reports confirm there was a problem with his pair shoot. investigators say he was using his own equipment. the chp investigating a

deadly solo car crash in sonoma county. this happened about midnight on bloomfield road. investigators say a driver crashed into a tree and was pronounced dead at the scene. still not clear what led up to that crash. a new bike share program will soon be hitting bay area streets. i want to show you some of the bike racks located in san francisco. many more can be found in redwood city, palo alto, mountain view, and san jose. the program launches this thursday. annual membership costs $88 and it gives you an unlimited number of rides. so far 700 bikes will be available at the 70 pick up and drop off locations. >> and you're a biker. >> i love riding my bike around town. can't ride it to work. >> sal, the folks on the east shore need you. they do. the traffic is actually doing pretty well though. right now. coming in. as you drive through. let's say you are driving from

vallejo all the way to berkeley. i would say it's a nice looking drive. let's take a look at that. the traffic is moving well. i'm just saying for the guy that is just watching at some other home who doesn't know. we are just letting people know. westbound bay bridge as you drive up to the bay bridge toll plaza that is light so far. there are no problems by the way if you are driving in livermore valley. 580 coming in from 205 and 205 itself is very slow. once you make it into livermore it looks good. getting into castro valley is nice. no problems on westbound 580. a little congestion already. if you are driving southbound on 880, the traffic here looks pretty good if you are driving on to the sat bay we have a nice looking drive for you. let's go to steve. the bay bridge is closed.

>> thursday and friday. >> that guy is out there, sal. a little system coming in right there. that will get a little drizzle. back to school for alameda here. and temperatures starting off very, very mild. 62. 65 we'll go a high of 70 degrees. so temperatures about seasonal averages really. very mild on the lows. almost everybody expect half- moon bay and santa rosa at the 60s. cloudy conditions. get that low cloud deck. a little bit of that drizzle. it will peel back to the coast. tropical clouds are very close to getting up to yosemite. las vegas right in line for heavy rain. there is a lot of moisture coming off of mexico. we will keep an eye on this. but a lot of tropical clouds and rain. at least on the desert. 40s, 50s, and 60s. this little system will give us a little cool down compared to yesterday. just a little cooler.

low clouds and then sun. kind of a muggy pattern. low temps near 60. slight bump up on the temps on tuesday. high pressure kicks in. >> thank you, steve. overnight asian stock markets gained ground amid speculation the federal reserve will not be phasing out the monetary stimulus program. they rose more than a a half of a percent. the nikkei index dropped slightly. positive trading in asia giving some investors hope the u.s. markets will continue to move higher after two straight gains days of gains. checking in on our futures right now they are down a little bit. they are waiverring a little bit ahead of some important economic data that comes out this morning that is the durable goods, manufactured goods that last longer than a

year and dow jones nasdaq, and s & p all posted gains on friday. instagram are back up and running. amazon web service powers the site and says yesterday afternoon's outage lasted about 60 minutes. it was due to a network issue. the service has reported few outages so far this year. the last big one happened on christmas eve. last year. that took down netflix. there is tests to find the safest consider in americaen the reason why tesla's model s may not be as safe as it seems. close call at the sonoma raceway. you missed that. how an indy car crew member went flying. cancer. the idea was to stimulate a patients immune system using bowl bacteria. all three test patients died. two shortly after being treated. while these two men gave permission for the procedure uc davis cities it did not. some 49er fans are really pumped up for the regular nfl season. in fact, some fans got sop excited they had to bring in extra security at last night's game. you kidding me? three rowdy fans tried to run on to the field during the fourth quarter. only one of the fans was successful though. but that forced the 49ers security team to bring in bike police who were outside the stadium to help with the efforts inside. now during the game collin kaepernick got the team off to a fast start. look at this touchdown pass. gave the 49ers a 10-0 lead after the first quarter.

morning news. a live look at pam cook's bay bridge. looking at it from strength. pam's bridge is set to close down on wednesday. the big question who might be the very first person to cross the new span? stay tuned. we will tell you about that coming up. it is monday, august 26th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. it's almost 5:30. i thought the golden gate bridge was my bridge. >> that one too. you get both. [ laughter ] >> let's check in with steve for the weather. it looks pretty nice out. not bad. we have a little bit of drizzle. a little system right there. that's all it takes enhancing that fog deck and it's very mild on the lows. mostly cloudy. all the observations say cloudily. 60 to 78 at noon. partly sunny. either fog or sun. 62 to 88 degrees. kind of muggy and humid. we are starting off so mild to warm with very low 50s and 60s. temperatures stuck here. welcome back to school here. couple are opening.

you drive through. let's go to live pictures. i want to show you the westbound bay bridge. you are getting a little backup in some of the outside lanes. by 6:00 we usually have a full tilt plaza on a regular monday. and in san jose right through downtown, that looks good all the way up to the valley. now back to the desk. the countdown clock is ticking. we are in the final countdown. the bridge will shut down wednesday night in preparation for the opening of the new eastern span. tara moriarty is joining us now from the bay bridge toll plaza with more on who could be the first to cross the new bridge. tara. >> reporter: it could be you. as soon as the cal trans team as soon as the bridge team signals go, they will remove the orange barriers and chp will escort people on to the bridge lane by lane. don't wait behind the barriers you could get a ticket. it will really depend on luck and a little bit of good timing. now in case you haven't heard,

you can take a look at the more photos on our website at ktvu.com. just look for the slide show under top stories. police are searching for two suspects after a restaurant was robbed at gunpoint. that happened at 11:00 p.m. on saturday night at corners tavern in walnut creek. witnesses say two armed men came in the back door with their faces hidden by hoodies and bandannas. one of the waitresses held at gunpoint says it was unbelievable. >> i wanted to see them caught. i want to see them stopped. i just don't want this to happen to anybody else. >> walnut creek police showed us surveillance video from the broadway plaza garage of the suv leaving and another possibly the same vehicle from a different angle there. police say the vehicle they are interested in is a light

colored suv with a roof rack. fortunate linoel one was hurt. we also have more details on a downtown walnut creek burglary. thieves rammed a pickup truck into the tiffany's. the suspects took jewelry from a display case but they were unable to steal the more expensive items because they are locked up in back. police in fremont warning people about a scam. tricking peep that snakes are in -- tricking people that snakes are in their house. janine de la vega. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we are hear in the cherry boar key that area of fremont. this is where chiefs hit over the weekend. scam artists burglarized a home here in the area after tricking the homeowner. this all happened on saturday evening between 5:00 and 6:00. claiming that a poisonous snake

has gotten loose and bit an little girl on the street. the worker said everybody should go to -- that is when an unknown second suspect entered the home and jewelry and cash were stolen. earlier in the day another home was hit in the hill view month see doe area of niles. this time it was two females telling the homeowner poisonous snakes were on the loose and they needed to get into the home and yard to measure for traps. they have one description. >> investigators believe she may be traveling in a grey or silver land rover. the city of fremont says they

are not investigating any snake problems or snake infestations. city worker also have a city issued picture id. and they have cars that have a logo on it. if someone approaches you make sure they show you their id. they are also for anybody in the area that may have had surveillance video to give them a call. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. this morning united airlines worker accused of stealing luggage from passengers at sfo is due in court. shawn is scheduled to be formerly charged with grand theft and burglary for the asiana crash. the couple stole luggage from passengers who were supposed to fly into sfo on july 8th but they were diverted because of that plane crash two days

earlier. in the next few weeks san francisco police officers will begin wearing chest cameras. the department says the cameras will be worn while serving search warrants and only by supervisors. now chief greg suhr says the cameras are to insure officers are following correct procedures. that kick offed a federal investigation that is still ongoing. 5:40 is the time right now. in san jose plastic foam food containers may become a thing of the past. the city council is expected to vote on the proposal tomorrow. many restaurants and business groups that oppose the ban say foam takeout boxes are recyclable. but most of the containers end up in the landfill. if the ban passes they will need to use alternatives by

2014. time now 5:40. according to new reports plans by the warriors to build a new waterfront arena way behind schedule. san francisco chronicle reports new city documents shows the team could miss the 2017 targeting opening date by several months. the repair costs for the piers out there to hold the venue it has gone up by almost as $50 million. a representative of the team dispute the cost projections and say the arena will be ready for the beginning of the 2017 season. a mystery involving a missing probasketball star. why concern is now growing by the hour for lamar odom. it's a big mess in southern california after heavy rain slams parts of river side county. why the worst could still be to come. we're seeing more slow traffic now. it's getting a little slower in some areas. let's take a look at interstate 8 8:that traffic is okay.

attack near da math thus. we are hearing the inspectors have not yet arrived at the site of the reported chemical weapons attack. some members of congress are urging swift military action against the syrian government if the use of chemical weapons is confirmed. 355 people were killed in the attack last wednesday and it o that it included the use of toxic gas. 5:46. today is the first day of school in oakland and the cost a lot higher for educators. california lawmakers pass a new law for public schools. they will no longer be able to require parents to chip in and pay for activities and supplies. a lot of teachers say they support the idea but some say they will have to make up the difference where government funding is lacking. >> where there is crayons, markers, and pens. we should have that.

very mild. mainly 60s on the temps. water temps were 56 to 60. it doesn't take much to keep the mild lows going. plenty of low clouds being helped along by a weak front. a lot of rain. a lot of tropical moisture taking aim. and streaming right across palm springs. and there is a lot of moisture that continues to come off of mexico. will it make to the rim fire? it doesn't look like it. because the direction the wind is mainly out of the west. you need a south wind. they are just in the getting it. it's getting close. it may happen tuesday afternoon into wednesday. it may be in the central or southern sierra. the wind direction is showing more of a westerly breeze. it is inching closer. we will keep an eye on that. and see if that works its way in. for us it will be sunny. 60s and 70s and 80s. kind of a muggy pattern. and tomorrow looks like a few high clouds. possible showers southern sierra.

yesterday morning near 11th and d streets. one died at the scene. the other at the hospital. neighbors reported hearing four gunshots but nothing else. police are hoping more people will come forward with information. >> at this point we are unsure of the motive. we are looking into every possible angle. but we don't know the motive right now. we are definitely looking for witnesses. >> police say they do not have many leads. so far they have not released any information about the victims or what led up to the shooting. time is 5:55. a former child psychiatrist that pled no contest to molesting boys is due to find out his fate this morning. 81-year-old dr. will ayres of san mateo entered that no contest plea. the first trial ended with a hung jury and then a subsequent mistrial in 2009. several victims are expected to testify today. ayres could get up to 20 years
